Data center consolidation – it’s the mandate of the day as the federal government begins what promises to be the largest information technology consolidation initiative in its history. According to the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the number of federal data centers has ballooned more than 150% in the last dozen years, from 432 in 1998 to 1,100 in 2009. As a result, plans are underway across government to dramatically reduce the number of IT centers in order to reap considerable savings in space and power.

Login to view this interactive seminar, presented by GTSI and FCW, where leaders from government and industry will discuss ways federal agencies can not only efficiently conduct the mandatory assessments of their data centers, but also effectively plan for the next phase of implementation.  Hear practical insights and recommendations on:

  • How to reduce the cost of data center hardware, software, operations, and maintenance – as well as how future data centers can be managed more productively.
  • How agencies can shift IT investments to efficient computing platforms and make use of secure cloud computing and virtualization to consolidate data centers.
  • How to migrate current computing environments to Green IT by decreasing the overall energy consumption and real estate footprint of data centers.

In addition, login to hear the key findings from the Government Business Council’s new in-depth study on how federal managers view virtualization, including the inherent challenges, obstacles, and resources needed to implement virtualization within their agencies.
